Huawei honors its Mate40 press conference promise to plant more than 60,000 Populus euphratica in Jinta County, Gansu

[Global Network Intelligence Comprehensive Report] On April 8, Huawei’s "I have a piece of Populus euphratica | Gansu" charity project spring planting was officially launched. The 62439 Populus euphratica seedlings donated by Huawei and consumers began to be planted in the desert of Jinta County, Gansu Province This is also the first Populus euphratica forest planted in 2021 in Jinta County, Gansu Province.

"I have a forest of Populus euphratica | Gansu" is a public welfare project jointly launched by Huawei and the China Green Foundation at the 2020 annual flagship new product launch. At the launch ceremony, Yu Chengdong, the managing director and CEO of Huawei’s consumer business, announced that it would provide money to Gansu Province. Ta County donated 50,000 Populus euphratica. "We appreciate the brilliant colors of Populus euphratica, and we appreciate its tenacious spirit. Huawei hopes to work with everyone to use the mountains and rivers to leave the traces of our generation and contribute to the protection of natural ecology." He mentioned.

In addition to Huawei’s donation of 50,000 Populus euphratica saplings to Jinta County, Huawei also invited all sectors of society to contribute to the protection of Gansu’s natural ecology. After five months of fundraising, the total amount of consumer donations exceeded 1.28 million. The number of donors involved reached 25,500. The real-time donation status of the project and the progress of the project are also continuously publicized on the official website of Huawei Consumer Business.

It is understood that a Populus euphratica tree absorbs an average of 215.68 kilograms of carbon dioxide in its lifetime, and that Populus euphratica can absorb 9058.56 kilograms of carbon dioxide in its lifetime (calculated as 42 plants per acre). A total of 62,439 trees were planted this year, which is expected to form a windbreak and sand-fixing forest of 1,488 mu, and an area of 11,160 mu of sand-controlled sand damage, equivalent to the size of 1042 standard football fields. According to a Populus euphratica tree that absorbs an average of 215.68 kilograms of carbon dioxide in its lifetime, this project will absorb approximately 13,470 tons of carbon dioxide, which is about the annual carbon dioxide emissions of 5,000 1.6L cars.

Populus euphratica with tenacious vitality is known as the "desert hero". It plays a very important role in preventing wind and sand fixing, blocking the movement of quicksand, and maintaining ecological balance. It can not only effectively slow the spread of deserts, but also improve the soil to a certain extent.

"I have a forest of Populus euphratica | Gansu" public welfare project is just a microcosm of Huawei's fulfillment of social responsibility and practice of green environmental protection. Huawei believes that one of the most effective ways to protect resources is to manufacture high-quality and durable products. The longer the product is used, the less resource consumption will be. According to the relevant person in charge of Huawei, "From 2015 to 2019, the energy efficiency of Huawei's mobile phone products has increased by about 50%; there are more than 700 complete machine and component reliability test items, which ensure the normal use of mobile phone products under extreme conditions. "

Huawei has been exploring energy-saving, emission-reduction, and environmentally friendly technologies. Through smaller, lighter and more environmentally friendly packaging design, the packaging rate of Mate series flagship models has been increased by 68%, and plastic packaging has been reduced by 17,500 kg for every 10 million mobile phones The reduction of 550 tons of paper is equivalent to the reduction of 1.8 million medium-sized plastic bags and 9,350 trees in supermarkets. In terms of material selection, Huawei currently uses a total of 10 renewable materials in various products, and is actively exploring the possibility of using more high-quality recycled materials in products with material suppliers; since 2013, bio-based plastics have been widely used Used in the manufacture of Huawei mobile phones, it greatly reduces the pollution and damage to the environment during the production of traditional petrochemical plastics. Among the bio-based plastics selected by Huawei, more than 30% of the ingredients are extracted from castor oil, which reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 62.6% compared to traditional plastics. In product packaging, 100% environmentally friendly soy ink is also used instead of petroleum-based ink.

In the past ten years, Huawei's consumer business has worked with partners such as developers, supply chains, and non-profit organizations to actively invest in sustainable development, and promoted 93 of the Top 100 suppliers to complete carbon emission reduction targets, and Huawei's global terminal equipment recycling system Covering 48 countries and regions, since 2017 alone, more than 5,000 tons of e-waste has been recycled through Huawei's own recycling channels and properly disposed of.
