Samsung Galaxy A03s stars in a big leak

One of Samsung's most affordable smartphones, the Galaxy A02s, is reportedly getting a successor with a number of upgrades. It's predictably going to be called Galaxy A03s and the leak includes detailed images and key specs. Samsung Galaxy A03s For starters, the handset will include a side-mounted fingerprint reader and a USB-C port at the bottom, which is a big deal since the predecessor didn't have a fingerprint reader at all and shipped with a dated microUSB. A 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel will cover the front with a small teardrop notch, where a 5MP camera will reside. The back... http://dlvr.it/S0nkRb

The price is right: Modeling economic growth in a zero-emission society

With increasing public awareness of crises associated with degraded environments and mounting pressure to act, governments worldwide have begun to examine environmentally sustainable policies. However, there are many questions about whether enacting these policies will negatively affect economic growth. Now, a model suggests that sustained GDP growth is possible even after spending to clean up pollution as it is created, providing hope that a zero-emission society is an achievable goal. source https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2021/05/210531120929.htm

Scientists discover a new genetic form of ALS in children

In a study of 11 medical-mystery patients, an international team of researchers has discovered a new and unique form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Unlike most cases of ALS, the disease began attacking these patients during childhood, worsened more slowly than usual, and was linked to a gene, called SPTLC1, that is part of the body's fat production system. source https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2021/05/210531120926.htm

Xiaomi says it can now fully charge a phone in eight minutes at 200W

Xiaomi has shown off its latest fast charging tech demo, and consequently is claiming the new world records for both wired and wireless charging speeds. Using a modified Mi 11 Pro with a 4,000mAh battery, Xiaomi says it’s able to fully charge the phone in 8 minutes over a 200W wired “HyperCharge” system, or in 15 minutes with 120W wireless charging. Charging speeds are a frequent battleground for Chinese smartphone companies, who often release demonstrations of breakthroughs that may or may not show up in final products. Two years ago, for example, Xiaomi announced a 100W system that could charge a 4,000mAh battery in 17 minutes, while last year’s Mi 10 Ultra filled up in 23 minutes at 120W — though it did have a bigger 4,500mAh battery. ... Realme C25s full specs, release data and price leak

The Realme C25s, also known as the RMX3195, has been making certification rounds for a couple of weeks now, bagging an NBTC certification and then one from Russia's EEC. Should you quit Google Photos in 2021?

Unlimited image storage for absolutely nothing: Google’s photo backup deal was quite the steal. It’s little wonder that the promise of limitless free capacity quickly caught the attention of serial snappers. Provided you were happy to accept a cap on quality – which, at 16MP, was hardly extreme – the search giant would safely stash copies of all your precious snaps online.  Alas, all good things must come to an end – including generous complimentary cloud storage allowances. Unless you’re the proud owner of a Pixel handset, unlimited space for ‘high quality’ images will end on 1 June 2021. Any ‘high quality’ shots uploaded to Google Photos after that date will count towards your free 15GB account limit.  Already uploaded your entire library? Don’t panic: any snaps backed up before 1 June 2021 will not count towards the total. But you’ll still face a problem if you’re close to the limit. Hit 15GB with future uploads of any quality and you’ll have to m

Cybertruck patent applications show off UI, solar bed cover, ‘armor glass’

Photo by Sean O’Kane / The Verge New patent applications submitted by Tesla in 2020 but published Thursday have revealed a bit more information about the Cybertruck, which is currently slated to start shipping at the very end of this year or in early 2022. One includes (in rather grainy detail) a bunch of screenshots of the new UI Tesla has been working on. Another details how the company plans to integrate solar panel tech onto the retracting tonneau cover for the truck bed — something CEO Elon Musk said might be an option . And there even appears to be an application for what could be Tesla’s so-called “armor glass,” which memorably failed during an onstage demo in 2019. We’ve seen glimpses of Tesla’s new user interface before, at the Cybertruck reveal event and when... Continue reading… * This article was originally published here

Lead levels in urban soil are declining but hotspots persist

Lead paint and leaded gasoline have been banned for decades, but unsafe levels of lead remain in some urban soils, a new study finds. The researchers mapped soil lead concentrations along 25 miles of streets in Durham, N.C. Though contamination generally has declined since the 1970s, soil collected near houses predating 1978 still averaged 649 milligrams of lead per kilogram of soil, well above the 400 mg/kg threshold associated with health risks to children. source https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2021/05/210527112609.htm

New microscopy method reaches deeper into the living brain

Researchers have developed a new technique that allows microscopic fluorescence imaging at four times the depth limit imposed by light diffusion. Fluorescence microscopy is often used to image molecular and cellular details of the brain in animal models of various diseases but, until now, has been limited to small volumes and highly invasive procedures due to intense light scattering by the skin and skull. source https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2021/05/210527112546.htm

The Nintendo Switch Pro may be unveiled in a few weeks with 7" OLED display, DLSS support

Time flies – the Nintendo Switch is already 4 years old and it is time for it to retire to the gaming hall of fame. Its replacement, the tentatively named Nintendo Switch Pro, will be unveiled in a few weeks, some time before E3 (which will be held in mid-June), according to sources speaking to Bloomberg. The timing of the announcement will allow Nintendo’s partners (and the company itself) to showcase their upcoming games at the expo. But that reveal may be followed by a long wait. The first shipments may start around July, though with the chip shortage that is strangling the industry,... http://dlvr.it/S0Y1z5
