Xiaomi (perhaps prematurely) announced the Mi Air Charge technology, which can provide 5 W remote wireless charging to devices a few meters from its base station. Although the announcement is exciting, it is currently only a steam vessel, and the company will not ship any equipment in 2021, and there is no detailed information about when it will be launched.
Xiaomi caused a sensation by announcing (it seems premature) its new Mi Air Charge technology. A potential breakthrough in charging introduces remote wireless charging with a radius of 5 W and a radius of several meters. Multiple devices can also be charged at 5 W at the same time, and there are no physical objects with obstacles. Xiaomi explains how all this works in a new blog:
The core technology of Xiaomi remote charging is spatial positioning and energy transmission. The isolated charging pile independently developed by Xiaomi has built-in five phase interference antennas, which can accurately detect the location of the smartphone. The phase control array composed of 144 antennas sends millimeter-wide waves directly to the phone through beamforming.
In terms of smartphones, Xiaomi has also developed a small antenna array with a built-in "beacon antenna" and "receiving antenna array". The beacon antenna broadcasts location information with low power consumption. The receiving antenna array composed of 14 antennas converts the millimeter wave signal emitted by the charging pile into electrical energy through a rectifier circuit, thereby turning the science fiction charging experience into reality.
However, even if the technology does work in the laboratory, the subsequent statement about "reality" is not particularly accurate. A representative of Xiaomi told The Verge that devices compatible with Mi Air Charge will not be released this year, nor can it be confirmed when the first device and base station will actually be shipped. In the industry, this is the so-called "evaporator", which makes it difficult to understand Xiaomi's motivation for making this announcement before the actual release. It is finally announced that the first new technology rather than the first person to actually release the technology will receive zero honor. Especially when Apple started to study this technology as early as 2011, it may still bring Xiaomi to the market.
